Another push factor for her eagerly to work abroad is she wants to help her uncle (very close to the family) to shoulder some of the medical bills as her aunt is in coma and hospitalised. The medical bill has accumulated to a very big sum by now.

When asked about the cooking skills, she seems very happy and she shared that she loves and she enjoys in cooking. Therefore, house chores and cooking is not something difficult to her. She likes to cook wherever there is family gathering. She learned different cooking when she worked in F&B for about 3. 5 years. When the kitchen was busy or the chef was absent, she always the one voluntarily to help-out, so her boss taught her all the dishes. She also knows the garnishing and table setting too.

Susimie has an easy-going character. She is mature, responsible and keen learner. She shared that being new to Singapore as a helper, she is able to cope the home sick and stress as she has experienced working in Middle East. She understands every family has different needs and culture; she is willing to learn and adapt. Her only motivation that drives her to earn more and save more is her son. Therefore, she decided to continue to work abroad.

Chaw Htay (“Mary”) is a happy, positive and outspoken person. She also expressed that she has easy going character, she is a keen learner and she can take up any job challenges. She has completed built her own house a year ago which near to train station. She has plan to set up her own business when she retired to work as a helper and go back to her home country for good.

Mary is suitable for family who seek a mature, independent and keen learner to care for their children alongside with house chores and cooking without communication barrier.

Anabel (“Belle”) is a cheerful, pleasant, well-mannered and mature helper. During the interview, she expressed that she is proud to be a helper and she does not mind of any hardship. Importantly is to get good employer that treats her as part of the family where she can work long term. She is a keen learner and she had completed her first stage of culinary course. She intends to continue when she comes back to Singapore again. She shared that while working hard in Singapore, she also wants to upgrade herself in term of knowledge so that it can be use when she retires become a helper one day. Her husband is working as security. If no class, she will go to church. If to care the infant, she still need guidance.

Grety is pleasant, cheerful, positive and mature. She took up a caregiver course (elderly and infant) and she has graduated since April 2018. She also plan to further study the same course to diploma level. She shared that she has interest in learning. Now she has the opportunity to study while working in Singapore, she chooses to study the course that she is interested. She is fully aware her objective in life and the purpose of working in Singapore. She has her own plan not only for her family but also for her future.

Grety is suitable for family seeking a hardworking, independent and mature helper to entrust their children and house chores including cooking without worries.

Marissa is a cheerful, positive and dedicated helper. She wishes to continue to work as a helper as long as she can so that she can save enough for her retirement when she goes back to her home country for good.

She is seeking for long term employment and she is hoping the new family will embrace her as part of the family. She feels blessed that the children that she took care had built a good rapport and bonding with her. She has been observed on his preferences in order to break the ice. She also observed that when she brought him to playground, he always cried and he did not know how to interact with other children in the playground. Therefore end up was only stick to her and play with her. She found a way to teach him: she will get him to bring his favourite toy together to the playground, she taught him how to share with others and make friends. They also wants her to cook. She feels grateful that they treat her well and embrace her as part of the family. She has done some renovation on her house with her saving since she started to work in Singapore.

Ayu is now seeking a good family that she can work for long-term (like her 1st employment) and grow with the family. She is suitable for employer who seeks a hardworking, independent and mature helper to care for their infant/toddlers/teens alongside with house chores and cooking.

Sandar is a pleasant, cheerful and responsible helper. Therefore, being the eldest in the family, she decided to work in Singapore to support her family. Her drive to work in Singapore again is to continue to support their studies and to save for her own future.

During the interview, Sandar shared that she does not mind of hardship, importantly is the family that she is working for is good to her. She likes children and is willing to learn new skills set, e. g. how to take care infant.

Moh Moh Zaw is a cheerful, mature and caring helper who often said she was blessed to worked with two employers who regards her as family. When recall how was her relationship with the children, she said they have great bond and they would listen to her when she asked them to shower or do homework. She also expressed her gratitude that hthe elderly she assisted shared very close bond and taught her patiently when she don't know much when she first came to Singapore. Helper seek to join a new family where she can continue to care for elderly. Helper can communicate and express well in English. She can understand basic chinese to communicate with elderly.

Anis is matured helper who came to Singapore to work with very clear goals in her mind. She shared how she achieved her 1st yr, 2nd yr and 3rd yr goals with great sense of achievement. She is projecting another 4yrs in Singapore before going home for good. She would like to join a family with children and complete her 4yrs goal. She likes to care for children and treats them like her own twins. She even had her husband to send children's clothes over for the children she took care of. Till this day, she is keeping in contact with her 1st employer and the children. They would remember her birthday and her twins' birthday, giving her small gifts or red packets.

Anis will be available to come back end of June.

Cho Mar Lwin is a cheerful and mature helper who likes to join a family that requires her in eldercare. She expressed that her elderly has dementia, it is difficult and tiring but she does enjoy caring for one. When asked what is the most challenging part of her job, she shared the most challenging part is to watch over a dementia elderly who refused to sit down or stay at their seat (like to walk around) near her, while she is also coping with other chores or cooking.

Helper is more suitable for employer who will embrace helper as part of their family, wants a helper who has some prior experience that can support them in caring for their elderly.

She also does not mind caring for elderly - as she learned Nurse Aid and could apply them.

Helper does not mind joining an indian family and continue to learn more indian dishes. She is suitable for employer who seek for a helper who aims to have a long term employer as long she find a good employer; Helper understands that as her age grow closer to 50s, it will not be easy for her to find a new employer and by then she may return back Myanmar for good.

Amuh (her alias) is a cheerful, positive and easily contented helper who does not mind managing a big household again and learn things so long employer are good, willing to teach what she can improve/need to know. She also shared that at first she doesn't like cat, but later after she grow to like caring for cat as she wish to serve the family well as they regards her as family.

Melky May (“May”) has a cheerful, lively and easy-going personality. g. able to turn, able to sit, able to crawl, speak, walk etc. She shared that employer left her to care for their babies independently and she felt accountable to give the best to the baby - e. g. if she saw that the baby is teething she would do some research online to find out more what she can do for the baby. In additional, May spoke of her desire to upgrade herself by taking up caregiver certification in infant and toddler care as she believes there is still so much she have to learn.

Gina is a gentle and soft-spoken helper who has experience in taking care of infants/children. While being asked how she will manage the kids when they are in quarrel, she will try to speak nicely to the kids to stop the fighting instead of separating them away directly. Then she will act as mediator to resolve the conflict between the kids and tells them that “siblings should not fight with each other”, which is same as her upbringing - 7 siblings never fight with each other before.

Upon finishing her 3rd contract with the family, helper requested ma'am to find her a new employer. Ma'am asked her do her a favour to stay with them and she saw that the girls can't bear her leaving, hence helper decided stay for one more contract. 3 months before the end of her contract, ma'am asked Gina whether she want to re-contract. The family sent her to the airport on the day she went back. She will talk to her children every night.

She is currently looking for another long-term employment like her previous one and seeks to join a family who can respect and embrace her as part of the family. Suitable for employer who is looking for helper with experience in infant care and childcare. While asking what's the biggest challenge in taking care of baby, she said that when baby falls sick as baby will keep crying and may vomit often.

Tutik likes to joke and it is a pleasure talking to her and she always seem to be smiling during the interview. She is someone who is easy-going, independent and mature. Currently her husband is working in Sarawak and she is looking to return to Singapore to work. During the interview, it was noticed that her house was not fully renovated yet --- no plastering to the external walls. Tutik shared she has used up her saving for the renovation but it was not enough, hence not only the external wall was not plastered and painted, some internal walls too.

Saumi is a lively, positive and mature helper who takes pride in her job as helper and fully understand the objective in life. She shared that as a helper should not choose the works and should need to adjust herself to suit the family needs as every family has different expectations and needs. When asked where and why she did that, she shared that usually she and a small group of friends (3-4 person) will play the traditional music at open space at Kallang and Paya Lebar area. The main purpose is to attract other helpers to join them for this healthy hobby instead of spending money unnecessary. She also teaches al-Quran to remind them of their religion and their family back in their home country. Sometimes her group will be invited for performance.

Saumi is very grateful that the employer trust her to do the right things for their children. She recalled that in the 1st family she joined, she cannot speak English at all and ma'am can only speak a little Bahasa. She can only communicate with the family and children using body and sign language. The family has been very patient with her and teach her English. She also shared that the children and her shared very close bond and they will even teach her how to read and speak in proper English.

Saumi is willing to learn how to take care of new born if the employer is willing to teach.

Carla is a jovial, easy-going, caring and loving caregiver. She shared that as a caregiver, she must be responsible, alert and react quickly on any emergency situation.

Carla is considering as trustworthy caregiver as she shared that her employer entrusted her to accompany the elderly to the bank to check her savings periodically.

Carla is suitable for family who is seeking a caring, patient and independent caregiver to take care their elderly at home. Her current employer gave personal reference to support her to find good employer to work abroad in continuing to support her family needs.

Joebelle (“Belle”) is a pleasant, mature and soft spoken person. Hence, being the eldest in the family, Belle decided to look out for opportunity to work abroad (either Singapore or Hong Kong). She wants to earn more and save more.

When asked about her other skill sets, she shared that she knows a little on sewing and she knows swimming. As for cooking, she shared that she only knows how to cook Filipino dishes and a little on Western foods.

Grace is pleasant, positive, and cheerful and has easy-going character. Therefore, she does not mind on hardship, importantly is to get a good family that will embrace her as part of the family.

Grace is also a keen learner as she expressed that she is not good in cooking other cuisines besides Filipino foods. She only can cook simple Chinese dishes that she has learnt in her previous employment. Although she can follow recipe and instructions to cook, she hope she can learn more and can practice it in her new employment.

Grace is looking for long-term employment and she is suitable for employer who seek for a mature helper with an end goal in mind (support her family back home), for general housekeeping, cooking, child-minding and basic elderly care (elderly who are mobile but need to look out for their safety and wellbeing).

She shared that she likes to be surrounded with the children's happy voices and it is ok for the children to play and explore as long as she is there with them to watch out their safety. She will not let the children play out of her sight. She will also get them to hug and apologize. She likes open communications. When talked about taking care of infant/toddler, she expressed that it is important to share with madam on what she has observed so that she can learn and improve herself and at the same time she will get to understand the madam's preferences more.

Jocelyn is seeking for a good family that can embrace her as part of the family that she can grow and work long-term. She is suitable for family who is looking out for a dedicated helper with good character to care their loves ones alongside with the house chores and cooking without worries.
