Working as a domestic helper for 8 years in Saudi Arabia.

Mar 2016 - Apr 2025.   Merlina served a couple with three children, aged 6, 3, and 1 when she started. She was the sole helper in a 5-story house with 10 large bedrooms. Her duties included cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry, ironing clothes, vacuuming, and washing dishes.

Merlina also provided full-time childcare, which later expanded to caring for five children, including a set of twins born during her stay. She handled diaper changes, feeding, bathing, and assisted the younger children with their daily hygiene routines. The twins slept with her at night. For the older children, she prepared meals, readied their school uniforms, and tutored them in English, helping with homework and review sessions.

Her experience enabled her to develop skills in preparing Arabic dishes such as bechamel, shamil, mulukiyah, biryani, kebab, mandi, and bukari. She also learned how to bake cakes, bread, pita bread, and cheesecakes.
