Nunung Deti Kurniawati, known as Wati to her friends, is a 33-year-old divorced Indonesian with a 13-year-old son. She is an experienced domestic helper who can understand and converse in fairly good English, and is able to read and follow simple English instructions.

Wati worked for a Malay family for 8 years and 9 months, serving an extended household of seven members including Ma’am, grandparents, two sons, a daughter-in-law, an uncle, a cousin, and a young boy whom she cared for from infancy to age six. In the early years, she managed the infant’s daily needs - feeding, bathing, and sleep routines.
